Want to hire a skip but not sure what you can and cannot put in there? Recycling waste is not always simple, and some materials and items are more difficult to dispose of than others due to various legislations and restrictions. Whilst we are happy to take almost any type of waste, it is worth noting that some items/materials may carry an extra charge, and others may need their own skip altogether.

  • Wood

  • We accept almost all types of wood in our skips without additional charges, apart from railway sleepers and other types of wood considered hazardous.

  • Cement/Hardcore

  • Any cement, concrete, stone, or brick rubble is welcome in our skips and is one of the simplest waste streams for us to recycle. We do ask, however, that you do not fill any skip larger than an 8 yard with predominantly hardcore waste as it may make the skip too heavy for the vehicle to lift or carry when collecting.

  • Tiles

  • Much like the hardcore mentioned above, tiles are more than welcome in our skips. However, tiles from older properties may contain asbestos, which cannot go in a normal skip. If you are unsure, contact us first to arrange a sample test.

  • Electrical cabling

  • Any old wires and cables can be put in your skip. These will be stripped of any plastic coverings and recycled as scrap metal.

  • Metal

  • As mentioned above, we welcome all and any metal in our skips, with the exception of items containing mercury.

  • Glass

  • Whether it’s in or out of a frame, in one piece or smashed to smithereens, please feel free to put glass in your mixed waste skip.

  • Kitchen Appliances

  • Ovens, cookers, microwaves, toasters, kettles…we will take it all. In fact, the only appliance in your kitchen that we would charge more for is your fridge/freezer.

  • Garden Appliances

  • Any lights or other electrical items are absolutely fine to go in our skip. However, if you have a lawnmower and/or pressure washer that uses petrol, they will need to be completely empty of any oil or fuel before going in the skip.

  • Other Household Goods

  • Any wooden, plastic, or wicker furniture will be accepted in our skips, as well as carpets, flooring, and almost all other household items.

  • Garden Waste

  • Any sand, soil, stones, turf, roots, bushes, plants, and almost anything else you can find in your garden are absolutely fine to go in one of our general waste skips.

  • Asbestos

  • We cannot accept ANY asbestos waste in our mixed waste skips, but we can offer a skip solely for asbestos waste. If you are unsure if the material you have to dispose of contains asbestos, contact our main office to organise the testing of a small sample.

  • Plasterboard

  • Plasterboard contains chemicals that react when it decomposes and releases toxic Sulphur Dioxide gas. We can provide a plasterboard-only skip or dumpy bag if you require one, but you cannot put any other material in them. If something is stuck to the plasterboard, like some wood or tiles, they must be separated.

  • Oils and Fuels

  • We cannot accept any petrol, diesel, oil, or any other form of liquid or gaseous fuel, even in a sealed container or cylinder.

  • Fridge Freezers

  • Unfortunately, we cannot accept any refrigeration units, including air conditioning units, without an additional charge being taken first.

  • Televisions and Computer Monitors

  • Any plasma, LED, LCD, or CRT screens require an additional charge before they can be placed in one of our skips.

  • Upholstered Furniture

  • Any sofas, armchairs, office chairs, bean bags, and any other upholstered furniture requires an additional charge due to fire-retardant chemicals used in their manufacture.

  • Japanese Knotweed

  • We cannot take any Japanese Knotweed in our skips, even when mixed with other garden waste.

  • Clinical or Medical Waste

  • This can include things like syringes, needles, bandages, and anything else used in medical care.

  • All other Hazardous Waste

  • Anything labelled as hazardous, or containing pollutants deemed hazardous, cannot go in a normal skip.

Remember, if you’re ever unsure about any part of your Skip Hire, including if your particular waste is allowed in our skip, just give us a call and ask. There are no silly questions. Our staff are very friendly and will be able to answer any queries you may have. We are always here to help you. Please contact us
